Episode 5 is here! Yes! Finally!
Nevermind that it has been out for almost a year. I’m working on maintaining the site better these days. There’s even Episode 6 out there by now, where I explain what you can expect in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned!
We are back!
Hey there, it’s been a while. The development of TerminaCraft is back on track. For a very long time we were struggling with massive lag and other bugs. It turns out that doing the whole thing with data packs is extremely cumbersome and inefficient. I therefore decided to port the entirety of TerminaCraft’s code to Denizen. I have basically restarted from ground zero, which wasn’t an easy decision. The results so far however are amazing. My main focus now is to implement the features chronologically. I have started by implementing a file select menu, and getting the Zelda-style drops to work, with breakable pots and grass, which can even be thrown! Along with the drops I found an interesting video on how the loot tables in the original Majora’s Mask worked, so I decided to implement them in Denizen as well. While you could easily miss the effect that those loot tables have on the random drops, I really wanted to have them in TerminaCraft, to make this recreation as faithful to the original as possible.
Thanks to everyone who has been waiting patiently and encouraging me throughout this time.
Ocarina of Time in Minecraft!
Hey everyone. It is with great pleasure that I announce that Ocarina of Time is also coming to Minecraft. While there already exists a playable version of Ocarina of Time in Minecraft (made by Rivero), I decided to make my own version, similar to the style of TerminaCraft. Make sure to check it out!
EDIT: this was an April Fool’s joke. While I’d love this to be a reality, I think it’s more reasonable to first focus on TerminaCraft. I hope you liked the joke anyway.
Episode 4 is here!
Hey everyone! The new TerminaCraft episode is here. It features some of the biggest feature updates, such as the dialogue box and the minimap. For Mapmakers or anyone generally interested in map making, there’s a bit of a “behind the scenes” where I explain how I pulled some of these features off. See for yourselves!
A Minimap that isn’t a Map!
Hey there. The other day I was thinking of adding the Minimap to TerminaCraft. One obvious solution would have been to simply use a Minecraft map. But this forces the player to hold the map in their offhand, has view bobbing, and just does not look like the original. So I spent some time generating a custom font with over 18’000 characters to bring the minimap straight to the HUD! I’m also planning on adding the red cursor, as well as the cursor of your friends, and finally chests and the white dots that you can see on some of the minimaps in the game.
Shiny new Dialogue System!
Hey everyone! While working on Jim and the bombers, I noticed how tedious it is to handle the dialogue lines for both me as the developer and the player. Text was written somewhere in between the code, and the timing was hardcoded, causing some players to not being able to read everything, or having to wait for too long. This new dialogue system changes everything! It looks and behaves exactly as the one in Majora’s Mask, and you can control it using your sneak key. This will also free up the in-game chat, so you and your friends can finally use it to talk properly! This of course implies that I will have to rework every usage of dialogue text up until now… which will take a while. I’m sure it’ll be worth the effort!
Bomber Hide and Seek!
I finally decided that it was time to polish the Bomber’s hide and seek game. I implemented the entire game in about a day, and it was a lot of fun. The Bomber’s code can be randomly generated and each game of TerminaCraft will have its own random code. There are still some things I’d like to add, such as the kids being able to glide with the cucco, or hide within chests, but I’ll leave it as is for now, as the result already looks pretty good!
More Skins by Skittles!
Skittles has been hard at work and added tons of new Skins, check them out:
Newly added were Mayor Dotour, Captain Viscen, the bomb shop vendor, the sword master, the trading shop salesman as well as his part-time employee, and finally Mutoh! A great thanks to Skittles, Terminacraft is becoming more and more lively with every NPC! 🙂
Episode 3 is out!
Hey everyone, the new episode is finally out! While it’s shorter than the previous ones, it is packed with new additions – this is mostly thanks to Skittles, who was really busy while I was absent due to exams. Clock Town is looking a lot livelier now thanks to all of the NPCs, and I’m looking forward to program each NPC to have each of them walking around Clock Town. The playable demo is coming closer every day!
First look at the opening
Hey everyone! Have a first look at the opening cutscene. There’s still a lot of stuff that needs to be fixed, such as the timing at the occasional lag, but all in all I’m quite happy with the results, so I thought I might share it!
